All our products are made in the UK with natural extracts, added vitamins and are colour and paraben free. We never test our products on animals and we’re always striving to reduce our impact on the environment. But that’s only half the story.
Just like our packaging, our ethics are black and white. We believe our policies and products should be good and do good. This ethos extends through our whole organisation defining our recruitment, financial management, sourcing, production and logistics. We create an equitable environment for our staff, where everyone has opportunities and is considered based on their abilities. We are a fair and equitable employer with people from all walks of life, each with their own story.
We don’t have huge machinery abroad pumping out millions of bottles a month, but instead a semi-automated production line in London and a traditional handmade process workshop in Keswick. Here people with great skills and motivation work to create great products.
We carefully select each and every component of our products; from the added cacao seed butter and aloe vera extracts through to the glue that is used to seal soap wrappers. We are passionately against animal testing, and our ingredients are 100% vegetable derived or from expertly crafted man-made components, apart from our Soap Pebbles cocooned in sustainably sourced wool. We are also delighted to share our office and factory with several wonderful guide dogs!
We don’t believe in shipping goods around the world unnecessarily; our ingredients, bottles and labels wherever possible come from UK suppliers.
We are inspired by Dame Ellen Macarthur’s Foundation (EMF) and their work to create the Circular Economy 100. Their philosophy is to design with more thought. For example, we know soap wrappers look pretty on the shelf and are then thrown out, so we have carefully designed with this in mind. We encourage you to compost our biofilms and papers at home or through your local food waste collection system. Why buy new pumps when the old ones still work? We also have refill bottles for our products.
We have worked with some of the most cutting edge manufacturers in the world to create components with a look and feel that exceeds expectations and has a much lower impact on the environment.
A bottle that is made from some old milk bottles? Yes. A film that looks and acts like plastic but is made from renewable wood pulp? Yes. A sticky label that can be composted? Yes. Paper that is both recycled and recyclable? Yes. Glue that is non-toxic and biodegradable? Yes.
Have we achieved perfection? We think we’re doing a good job so far, and we will continually strive to improve our products and our service both to you, the customer supporting this social enterprise through your purchases, and to our employees who make the products.
Our bottles are made of high-density polyethylene (HDPE) with 25% post consumer regrind HDPE. They are also made in the UK.
When compared to PET bottles, normal HDPE bottles release 37% less carbon. But that isn’t all, we have made sure 25% of our HDPE is sourced from “post consumer regrind” (PCR) which allows your old milk bottles to be reused to make our bottles and then fully recycled into more bottles in the future.
Using this PCR material allows a further 10% reduction in carbon meaning our bottles have around 45% lower environmental impact that regular PET bottles. PCR is plastic products that have been recycled, which means they have been reprocessed to be re-used in new manufacturing.

PCR conserves energy and non-renewable resources as recycling replaces the need for primary extraction and the manufacture of new plastics.

Our soaps are laid on a bio-film for wrapping, which are made here in the UK. These bio-films are based on renewable resources (wood-pulp from managed plantations) are compostable and certified to the European EN13432 standards for compostability. This makes them suitable for anaerobic digestion, and they are also proven to biodegrade in a waste water environment.

Our soap stickers have been made by the market leader in sustainability – no other sticky labels suppliers can say they are certified compostable. They are also made in the UK.
BioTAK, developed by Berkshire Labels, are a range of compostable self-adhesive labels derived from sustainable resources and fully certified to EN13432, the European Industrial Compostable Standard. Our compostable self-adhesive label range is coated with BioTAK® S100 permanent adhesive, a water-borne PSA based on a specially modified acrylic co-polymer.
All of our compostable self-adhesive labels are manufactured in accordance with ISO9001/2008 Quality Standard, ISO14001 Environmental Standard and BRC/IOP Food Technical Standard.
This EN13432 standard requires that at least 90% of the material degrades during the usual composting cycle, which lasts up to 6 months. There must be no heavy metals present that exceed the legally defined limit. There are no visible remains and there is no effect on the composting process and the quality of compost.
